We're going to go over some different means to copy and paste in our first installment of Pixelady vs. Pixelady.

Kris'south Fashion

One way to re-create and paste a office of an image in Photoshop Elements (information technology works for regular Photoshop, also) is to make a selection. Use the Rectangular Marquee tool to create a selection from an image. And so get to the menu and choose Edit > Copy:

So choose Edit > Paste:

The copy of the choice will be placed on a new layer right on top of the area it was copied from. Aye, you won't know there'southward a copy there unless you look in the Layers panel. Come across the niggling rectangular thumbnail next to the dark-green arrow?

Use Shortcuts

An easier style to copy and paste selections is to utilize the shortcut keys Ctrl + c (Mac = Control + c) to copy and Ctrl + v (Mac= Command + v) to paste.

Deb's Manner

Deb prefers to employ ane step instead of two whenever she tin can. So instead of copying and pasting, use the shortcut keys Ctrl + j (Mac = Command + j). It copies and pastes in i step. This shortcut isn't even listed in Photoshop's dropdown card. Chalk one up for the old dog!

Old Domestic dog Learns New Trick

This is Deb, the old dog. All of this copying and pasting works fine unless you have a file with more than ane layer. Then no matter which style you lot re-create and paste, you will just be copying what's on the agile layer. And, if you have used a blend mode on the layers to bear upon the fashion the image looks, it gets even more complicated. Notice how the upper heart part of the blended prototype doesn't wait similar either the top or lesser layer?

Blend Layers Phtoshop Elements

Here's the selection I fabricated. It'south hard to copy that section. You can't use copy/paste, no matter which layer you are on and which method you use.

Two layers with selection Photoshop Elements

Beneath is my endeavor to copy that section. I was on Layer one when I made the selection and pressed Ctrl + j. The pasted pick isn't just a part of Layer i, it'southward that part with the blend mode set on that layer (Overlay). So the pasted department is not what I idea it would exist.

Two layers pasted Photoshop Elements

Hither'southward what that pasted section looks like if I plow off the original two layers. Big deviation, correct?

Just guess what? The old domestic dog learned a new flim-flam while writing this post. If you desire to make a re-create of exactly what you are seeing in the selection outline, use the Copy Merged command in the Edit dropdown menu (Ctrl + Shift + c, or Mac = command + Shift + c).

Two layers copy merged Photoshop Elements

And then when you paste, the pasted part will look but like what you saw on the monitor. This is what the selection looks similar after I moved it.
